New Zealand used to be covered in trees! Now, it covered in cities, farms, and roads, and it is home to four million people.

Most of our native plants and animals live in the third of New Zealand that is still wilderness. The trouble is, these forests are now over-run with pests. That's why we need to create safe places for our animals - they're called sanctuaries.

Mr Blue was one of the first takahe to live on one of these sanctuaries.

To learn all about our pest-free sanctuaries, and the threatened animals that call them home join our kids club and you'll receive a magazine five times a year!
