Our long-fin is just as endangered as our Great Spotted Kiwi. Long-fin eels live till they are very old, many of them would be older than your grandmother!
Unfortunately, they breed late in life. Some of them reach the grand old age of 100 before they think about starting a family. Because they are taken from our rivers before they can breed, they cannot replace their population.
This petition is asking for the Minister of Fisheries to think about only letting a few eels get caught for people to eat so we can prevent them from becoming extinct.
