Have a Green Summer!

Meet some of the creatures in your nearby forest, or rock-pool this summer. Here are some activities you can do while you’re there –

1. Snorkel in a marine reserve. New Zealand has 33 marine reserves around the country. Try and visit one this summer. When you’re there count how many fish you see, and try to name them.
2. Go rock-pooling – Look closely at your rockpool, and you’ll find it has more residents than Palmerston North! They are humming with life. Look out for barnacles, crabs, limpets, cat’s eyes, periwinkle, tubeworms and sea squirts. Remember – don’t touch, just look.
3. Go birding and botanising in your local national park – Next time you visit a national park try to identify some of the trees using our guide. And listen out for some of the birds that live there. If you’re lucky a fantail, or a robin will guide you along your walk.
