Freshwater fur seals

Freshwater fur seals

Tue, 14 Dec 2010

Look at these fur seals frolicking in the Ohau waterfall near Kaikoura! The stream is a ten minute walk up a gully and along the walk you'll find a number of seals just lounging river-side.

You can tell they are seals and not sea-lions because they have pointy noses; they have ear-holes with no ear flaps and they're very chubby. To find out more about the differences between sea-lions and seals, see here

Attention!

Although these baby seals look cute and playful, it's best not to approach them. Their mothers are very protective and may roar at you, or worse bite you!
