Bioblitz Species Hunt Begins

Creature Hunt Begins

Fri, 11 Feb 2011

If you head out to Titahi Bay in Wellington over the next month you will probably find people head first in the bushes or heading out to sea in their scuba gear.

They are on a mission to find and identify all the species of plants, animals and insects on the land and in the sea.

Already 218 different species have been found, including this Onchidella nigricans piggy backing on a radiate limpet in the rock pools.

Some KCC kids joined us for our opening day and meet some of the scientists helping to identify the different species people find.

If you are in Wellington and keen to be a scientist for a day, and maybe even discover a new species, check out www.bioblitz.org.nz to see how you can join in. The Bioblitz runs from February the 5th to the 6th of March 2011.
