How many plants, insects and animals live in our parks? Heaps. Last year, over 1779 different species were found in Auckland’s Domain.
This year, we’re inviting the kids of Auckland to go on a forest hunt and track some of our more unusual plants, insects and animals.
Scientists will be at hand to help kids identify their discoveries. And who knows, you may find a creature or plant that is new to science!
During the day scientists will be taking guided walks, and evening walks to look for night time creatures like moths.
At 2pm on the Sunday, the countdown of the number of species will begin – with the final announcement at 3pm. Bring your friends and family and see if we can find more species than year!
Event detail: Auckland Domain, 10.00am-midnight on Sat 17th April and 5.00am 1 3.00pm on Sun 18th April.
