Get Writing

Be Heard

Upset about sea lions being caught in nets? Want to let the government know you don’t want your local river to be polluted? Worried about the amount of rubbish on the beach you swim at?

One way Kiwi Conservation Club members like you can be heard is by writing a letter or email to the people who run your city and your country. Even better, get your school mates, family and neighbours to write a letter too. The more people who care, the more councils or governments will take notice!

But how do you write to them?

Think about who you should write to.
Some politicians have the job to look after our natural world. Try writing to the Minister for the Environment, the Minister of Conservation, the Minister for Climate Change or the Minister of Fisheries.

Your local mayor or regional council have the job to look after your local rivers, parks, reserves and beaches.

A list of politicians and what they do can be found here

What are you writing about?

At the beginning of your letter or email make it clear what you are writing about and why it matters to you. Include some facts about your problem if you can.

Let them know what you would like them to do to help fix the problem and ask them to reply to your letter or email.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be boring! Use pictures to illustrate what you are talking about.

Send it!
