There are so few kakapo that they have all been given names.
Some of the names might make you laugh because they are a bit odd - like the name
'Gumboots' or 'Sinbad'.
In 2001 there were 62 kakapo.
But over the 2001/2002 summer 24 kakapo chicks were born.
Then there were 86 kakapo!
Sadly in July 2004 three kakapo girls died (listed below).
So now there are 83.
