Volunteer Coordinators
Around New Zealand Kiwi Conservation Club members attend organised family trips and activities to learn about the environment and native species. Club activities are organised by volunteers. The volunteer coordinators are mums, dads, friends and Forest and Bird members. They commit some of their time to help KCC kids learn about the natural world.

Coordinators do not need to have extensive knowledge about science and nature - they just need to have enthusiasm for learning, teaching and sharing. Coordinators can learn along with the children. Many parents of KCC members who become coordinators are pleasantly surprised by how much they learn, and are then able to pass on to other families.

Some coordinators lead a group by themselves, and some groups have 2-4 coordinators who share the responsibility of organising events.

Coordinator Support
Coordinators are not alone. They receive support from the staff of Forest and Bird, the coordinators camp, other coordinators, Forest and Bird branches and Ann Graeme, the KCC magazine writer.

Club Activities
The types of activities coordinators organise include... nature walks, beach clean-ups, rock pool investigating, growing plants, tree planting, bug hunts, making weta houses, building bird nesting boxes or bird feeders, learning about worm farming and making worm farms, weekend camps, pot-luck dinners and guest speakers. Some groups have regular meetings once a month, held at a local school or hall, where they learn about native species.

If coordinators are short of ideas for trips, they can always learn about what other KCC groups are doing for new ideas.

Club Newsletter
Coordinators also produce a club newsletter to let KCC members know when trips are. Some groups produce newsletters once every two months, others have just one per year, and some groups send out most of their newsletters by email to save money on postage.

Coordinators get support from their local Forest and Bird group to help pay for printing and posting newsletters. Some local businesses sponsor their KCC group's newsletter costs.
